Henry is a brilliant robotics engineer who has achieved the greatest breakthrough in his career: he has created artificial intelligent consciousness. He named the half-finished robot William. No one knows about William. Due to his agoraphobia, Henry stays at home all the time, constantly in his attic laboratory, away from everyone, even his pregnant wife Lily. When Lily's colleagues come to visit, wanting to finally meet Henry and see the new smart house, Henry decides to introduce them to William. But this turns out to be an unsettling and, later, risky and terrifying experience for everyone. And the smart house, designed to protect against external threats, is much better at holding them hostage.
