Few people realize that experiencing traumatic events does not necessarily condemn us to a life filled with suffering and grief. Inspired by her grandparents, who survived the Holocaust, Dr. Shiro has dedicated her life to helping individuals, families, and communities facing trauma and its consequences. Over more than twenty-five years of research and practice, she has identified five stages of post-traumatic growth: awareness, awakening, emergence, being, and transformationa universal language that describes how trauma can become a catalyst for change.
